Sarah Boyd is a freelance bassoonist, contrabassoonist, and professional reed maker based in Cedar Hill, Texas. Whether performing on bassoon or contrabassoon, Sarah is drawn to the unique role each instrument plays in shaping the orchestra's sound and is dedicated to creating performances that are both technically refined and emotionally engaging.

Sarah serves as Principal Bassoon of the Longview Symphony, Bassoonist with the Fort Smith Symphony, Contrabassoonist of the Texarkana Symphony, and recently won the Contrabassoon position with the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra. She also performs regularly as a substitute with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Chamber Symphony, Abilene Philharmonic, Shreveport Symphony, and numerous other ensembles throughout Texas and the surrounding region.

Beyond the concert stage, Sarah is the owner The Reed Lab, creating premium bassoon and contrabassoon reeds for students, educators, and professional musicians. Her meticulous attention to craftsmanship and consistency reflects the same musical values she brings to every performance. Each reed is carefully handcrafted and individually tested to provide a responsive, reliable playing experience, allowing musicians to focus on making music with confidence.

Sarah is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy and earned both her Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance from McGill University and her Master of Music in Bassoon Performance from Baylor University. Her principal teachers include Stéphane Lévesque and Eric Stomberg, whose mentorship helped shape her artistic voice and enduring love of orchestral performance.

When she's not performing or making reeds, Sarah enjoys spending time outdoors, sewing, playing video games, and relaxing at home with her husband, Steve, and their dogs, Murphy and Tsunami.
